Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

1

Chill glass

Place a rocks glass in the freezer or fill it with ice water to chill while you prepare the cocktail.

2

Combine ingredients

In a cocktail shaker add 2 oz bourbon, 1/2 oz Aperol, 3/4 oz sweet vermouth, 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice, 1/4 oz simple syrup, 2 dashes Angostura bitters and 1 dash orange bitters.

3

Add ice and shake

Fill the shaker with ice (enough to reach the shaker's shoulder). Seal and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until the shaker is well-chilled and slightly frosted.

4

Prepare serving glass

Discard the ice water from the chilled rocks glass (if used). Add one large ice cube or fill with fresh ice to the rocks glass.

5

Strain

Double-strain the cocktail into the prepared rocks glass over the large ice cube (or fresh ice) using a Hawthorne and a fine strainer to catch small shards from the shaking ice.

Garnish & Finish

6

Express orange oil

Take the orange peel and hold it over the drink, skin side down. Give it a firm twist to express the citrus oils over the surface, then run the peel around the rim of the glass.

7

Garnish

Drop the orange peel into the glass and optionally add a maraschino cherry on top. Serve immediately.
