Form the Patty
In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently to avoid overworking the meat.

Shape the Patty
Divide the mixture into equal halves and shape each half into a patty approximately 3/4 inch thick.

Cook the Patty
Place the formed patty on the grill. Cook for 3-4 minutes on one side, then flip and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
Assembling the Burger

Prepare the Bun
Toast the burger bun lightly on the grill for 1-2 minutes until golden brown.

Add Toppings
On the bottom half of the toasted bun, place the lettuce leaf, followed by the cooked beef patty. Top with tomato slices, onion slices, and your choice of cheese. Finally, cover with the top half of the bun.
