Tamale Preparation
1. Prepare Corn Husks
Soak the corn husks in warm water for about 30 minutes to soften them.
2. Make the Dough
In a large bowl, mix the masa harina, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the vegetable oil and broth, stirring until a dough forms.
3. Assemble the Tamales
Take a soaked corn husk and spread about 2 tablespoons of the masa dough on the smooth side. Add a tablespoon of shredded chicken, a tablespoon of red salsa, and a sprinkle of cheese. Fold the sides of the husk over the filling and then fold the bottom up.
4. Steam the Tamales
Place the tamales upright in a steamer pot. Cover with a damp cloth and steam for about 1 to 1.5 hours, or until the masa is firm and cooked through.
5. Serve
Remove from the steamer and let them cool slightly before serving. Enjoy with extra salsa on the side.
