Beef and seasonings

Method

Prepare the tostadas

  1. 1

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the tostadas on a baking sheet and bake 5–7 minutes until crisp.

Cook the beef and spice mix

  1. 2

Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add olive oil.

  2. 3

Add the ground beef and cook, crumbling with a spatula, until browned and no pink remains, about 6–8 minutes.

  3. 4

Sprinkle chili powder, cumin, oregano, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper over the beef. Stir to coat and cook for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.

Add aromatics and veggies

  1. 5

Add diced onion and minced garlic to the beef and sauté until the onion is translucent, about 2–3 minutes.

  2. 6

Stir in roasted green chiles and, if using, diced tomato. Cook 1–2 minutes to blend flavors.

Finish filling

  1. 7

If the mixture seems dry, add water or beef broth (2 tablespoons) to loosen and bring to a gentle simmer. Cook 2–3 minutes more. Taste and adjust salt as needed.

Assemble and serve

  1. 8

When tostadas are crisp, spoon a generous amount of the chile beef onto each tostada.

  2. 9

Top with shredded cheese and allow it to melt slightly.

  3. 10

Finish with a dollop of crema or sour cream, a sprinkle of cilantro, and a squeeze of lime. Serve immediately.
