Beef

Method

Beef

  1. 1

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

  2. 2

Add the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds more until fragrant.

  3. 3

Increase the heat and add the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until browned and no pink remains, about 6-8 minutes.

  4. 4

Stir in chili powder, cumin, paprika, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Cook and stir for 1 minute to bloom the spices.

  5. 5

Pour in tomato sauce and water (or beef broth). Simmer the beef mixture on low heat for 8-12 minutes, until slightly thickened and flavorful. Adjust seasoning to taste.

Tostadas & toppings

  1. 6

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the tostada shells on a baking sheet and bake 3-5 minutes, or until crisp and lightly golden.

  2. 7

Prepare toppings: shred lettuce, grate or shred cheese, dice or slice avocado, chop cilantro, and cut lime into wedges.

  3. 8

Assemble the tostadas: place a crisp shell on each plate, spoon a generous amount of the seasoned beef over it, then top with shredded lettuce, cheese, salsa, and a dollop of sour cream.

  4. 9

Finish with avocado slices, cilantro, and a squeeze of lime juice. Serve immediately.
