Toppings & Condiments
Sides (choice of fries or fresh fruit) + Drink
Method
Burger Patties
- 1
Mix and shape
Place ground beef in a bowl. Add 0.75 tsp salt, 0.5 tsp black pepper and 1 tbs Worcestershire sauce. Gently combine with your hands or a spatula until just mixed (do not overwork). Divide into 4 equal portions and form into patties about 8 cm (3 in) wide and slightly thinner in the center so they cook evenly.
- 2
Rest
Place formed patties on a plate and let rest in the refrigerator for 10 minutes—this helps them hold together during cooking.
- 3
Cook
Heat a heavy skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Add 1 tbs neutral oil and swirl to coat. When the pan is hot (light shimmering, small wisps of smoke), add the patties. Cook 3–4 minutes on the first side without moving, until a brown crust forms. Flip and cook another 2–3 minutes. In the final 30–45 seconds, place a slice of American cheese on each patty, cover the pan briefly (or add a lid) to melt the cheese. Remove patties to a plate and let rest 2–3 minutes.
Brioche Buns & Cheese

Toast buns
While patties rest, spread about 1/2 tbs butter on the cut face of each brioche bun (total 2 tbs). In a clean skillet or on a griddle over medium heat, toast buns cut-side down 1–2 minutes until golden and slightly crisp. Alternatively, toast under a broiler for 30–60 seconds—watch closely so they don't burn.

Prep toppings
Wash and dry lettuce leaves. Slice the tomato into 4 even rounds. Lay out 8 pickle slices (2 per burger). Portion ketchup (1 tbs per burger), mayonnaise (1 tbs per burger) and mustard (1/2 tbs per burger) into small ramekins if desired for easy assembly.
- 6
Assemble burgers
Spread mayonnaise and/or mustard on the bottom bun if using. Place the cheese-topped patty on the bun, then add a lettuce leaf, a tomato slice, two pickle slices and a small squirt of ketchup on top (adjust to child's preference). Cap with the toasted top bun and serve immediately.
Sides (choice of fries or fresh fruit) + Drink
- 7
Oven-baked fries (preferred)
Preheat oven to 220°C (425°F). On a rimmed baking sheet, toss 400 g frozen fries with 2 tbs vegetable oil to coat evenly and spread in a single layer. Bake 18–25 minutes, flipping once halfway through, until golden and crisp. Immediately season with 1 tsp salt and serve hot. (Adjust timing per package instructions if using pre-seasoned fries.)

Fresh fruit option
If serving fresh fruit instead of fries, wash the fruit. Core and slice the apple(s) into thin wedges, halve or remove stems from grapes, and portion berries. Arrange ~100 g fruit per child onto small plates or a cup for easy eating.
- 9
Fountain drink
Fill a small cup with ice and pour chilled fountain drink into each cup (typical small serving ~355 ml). Offer a straw and a napkin. For a lower-sugar option, serve water or a small flavored sparkling water instead.
