Method
Cocktail
Chill glass (optional)
If you prefer a colder drink, place the rocks glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail, then discard the ice water before straining.
Combine spirits
Add 1 oz Campari, 1 oz sweet vermouth and 1 oz gin to a mixing glass or shaker.
Prepare glass
If you chilled your rocks glass with ice water, empty and dry it. Add 1–2 fresh large ice cubes or a single large sphere to the glass.
Strain
Using a strainer, pour the chilled cocktail from the mixing glass into the prepared rocks glass over the fresh ice.
Garnish
Express the oils of an orange peel over the drink by holding the peel skin-side down about 3–4 inches above the glass and giving it a sharp twist. Run the peel around the rim and drop it into the drink as garnish.
Serve
Serve immediately. Sip slowly to enjoy the balance of bitter Campari, sweet vermouth, and botanical gin.
Optional/Tools
If using a shaker instead of stirring, add ingredients and ice, shake briefly for 8–10 seconds to chill, then strain into the glass. Note: shaking will introduce more aeration and cloudiness compared to stirring.
If you prefer a slightly less bitter profile, try a 1:1:0.75 ratio (Campari : vermouth : gin) — adjust to taste and record your preferred ratio.
