Method
Prep
Prepare glass
If rimming, run the lime wedge around the lip of a rocks glass. Dip the rim into the coarse sea salt or salt + smoked chile mix to coat. Set glass in the freezer or fill with ice to chill while building the cocktail.
Measure and chill ingredients. Have a large ice cube ready or set an empty rocks glass in the freezer so the cocktail stays cold longer.
Build & Shake
In a cocktail shaker add reposado tequila (2 oz), mezcal (0.5 oz), fresh lime juice (0.75 oz), fresh grapefruit juice (0.5 oz), agave syrup (0.5 oz), yellow Chartreuse (0.25 oz), and 2 dashes of orange bitters.
Add cracked ice (about 6 oz) to the shaker, cap, and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the shaker is well chilled and slightly frosted.
Strain & Serve
Discard the chilling ice from the prepared rocks glass (if used). Strain the cocktail through a fine hawthorne/strainer (or double strain if you prefer) into the chilled rocks glass over a single large ice cube or sphere.
Express the grapefruit twist over the drink to release essential oils, then rub the twist around the glass rim and drop it into the cocktail as a garnish.
Serve immediately.
