Method

Cooking Spaghetti

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring a generous amount of water to a boil. Add a pinch of salt to the water.

  2. 2

    Cook Spaghetti

Once the water is boiling, add the spaghetti. Cook according to package instructions, usually around 8-10 minutes, until al dente.

  3. 3

    Drain Spaghetti

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside.

Preparing Red Sauce

  1. 4

    Heat Olive Oil

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.

  2. 5

    Sauté Garlic

Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

  3. 6

    Add Tomatoes and Spices

Pour in the canned crushed tomatoes. Add the oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and sugar. Stir to combine.

  4. 7

    Simmer Sauce

Let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally until thickened.

Preparing Butter Sauce Option

  1. 8

    Melt Butter

In a separate saucepan, melt the butter over low heat.

  2. 9

    Sauté Garlic

Add the minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant.

  3. 10

    Add Parsley

Stir in the chopped parsley and remove from heat.

Combining and Serving

  1. 11

    Combine Sauce with Spaghetti

If using the red sauce, add the cooked spaghetti to the skillet with the sauce and toss to coat. If using the butter sauce, pour the melted butter and garlic mixture over the spaghetti and toss to coat.

  2. 12

    Serve

Plate the spaghetti and top with grated Parmesan cheese. Serve immediately.
