Method
Coffee Brewing
- 1
Prepare equipment
Confirm the coffee maker (drip machine) is clean. Ensure the carafe and basket are dry and the coffee maker is positioned on a flat, heat-resistant surface. Plug in the machine and have fresh filtered water ready.
- 2
Measure water
Pour 64 fl oz (about 8 cups) of filtered water into the coffee maker's water reservoir. If your machine uses a different measurement, fill to the 8-cup mark on the machine.
- 3
Add filter
Place a fresh paper or reusable filter into the basket. Make sure it sits flat and the edges are not folded.
- 4
Measure coffee
Spoon 8 level tablespoons (roughly 1 tablespoon per cup; can be adjusted to taste) of medium-ground coffee into the filter. Use regular or decaf per preference. Gently level the grounds — do not press them down.
- 5
Brew
Close the basket, place the empty carafe on the warming plate, and start the brew cycle. Let the machine complete the full brewing process (about 6–10 minutes depending on machine). Avoid removing the carafe while brewing to prevent spills and uneven extraction.
- 6
Post-brew
When brewing finishes and the dripping stops, remove the carafe and serve immediately or leave on the warming plate to keep warm. For best flavor, transfer leftover coffee to a thermal carafe within 30 minutes to avoid overcooking on the hot plate.
- 7
Clean up
Discard used grounds and paper filter (or rinse reusable filter). Rinse the carafe and basket with warm water. Wipe down the machine exterior and warming plate when cooled.
