Cocktail

Method

Prepare Glass

  1. 1

    Chill and sugar the rim

Place a coupe or martini glass in the freezer for a few minutes to chill. Pour the teaspoon of granulated sugar onto a small plate. Rub the lemon wedge around the rim of the chilled glass to moisten, then dip the rim lightly into the sugar to create an even sugared edge. Set the glass aside.

Mix Cocktail

  1. 2

Fill a cocktail shaker with 6 ice cubes.

  2. 3

Add 2 oz cognac (or brandy), 1 oz orange liqueur (Cointreau or triple sec), and 0.75 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice to the shaker. If you prefer a slightly sweeter Sidecar, add 0.25 oz simple syrup.

  3. 4

Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds, until the outside of the shaker is very cold and well chilled.

  4. 5

Double-strain (use a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer) into the prepared chilled, sugared coupe or martini glass to remove ice shards and any pulp.

  5. 6

Garnish with a lemon twist or rest the lemon wedge on the rim. Serve immediately.
