Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Chill glass

Place a coupe or martini glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to ensure the served drink is properly chilled.

  2. 2

    Combine ingredients

In a mixing glass, add 2 oz bourbon, 1 oz sweet vermouth, 0.25 oz dry Curaçao, and 2 dashes Angostura bitters.

  3. 3

    Add ice and stir

Fill the mixing glass with plenty of ice. Stir gently but thoroughly for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 full revolutions) until the mixture is well chilled and properly diluted (the glass should become frosted and slight dilution felt on the spoon).

  4. 4

    Strain

Discard the ice or water from the chilled serving glass. Double-strain the stirred cocktail into the chilled coupe or martini glass using a Hawthorne and fine strainer (or a single fine strainer if you prefer).

  5. 5

    Garnish and serve

Express the orange twist over the cocktail (if using) by pinching the peel to release the oils, rub the rim with the peel, then discard or drop it in. Drop the Luxardo or brandied cherry into the glass. Serve immediately.
