Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Prepare glass

Chill a coupe or Nick & Nora glass by filling it with ice water and setting aside while you mix the cocktail (about 3 minutes).

  2. 2

    Combine ingredients

Discard the ice water from the chilled glass. In a cocktail shaker, add 2 oz bourbon, 0.5 oz St. Germain, 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.25 oz simple syrup, and 2 dashes orange bitters.

  3. 3

    Add ice and shake

Add plenty of ice to the shaker (enough to fill). Shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the shaker is very cold and slightly frosted.

  4. 4

    Fine strain

Double-strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe or Nick & Nora glass using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer to remove small ice shards and pulp for a clean, silky texture.

  5. 5

    Garnish

Express the oils of a lemon twist over the drink by holding the twist about 3–4 inches above the surface and giving it a quick bend to spray the oils, then rub the twist on the rim and drop it into the glass.
