Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Chill glass

Place a rocks or coupe glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes, or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to chill it.

  2. 2

    Measure and add ingredients

Into a cocktail shaker add 2 oz Tanqueray London Dry gin, 0.5 oz fresh lime juice, and 0.25 oz simple syrup.

  3. 3

    Add ice and shake

Add about 6 ice cubes to the shaker. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the exterior of the shaker is frosty and well-chilled.

  4. 4

    Prepare serving glass

If you chilled the glass with ice water, discard the ice water. Add fresh serving ice to the rocks glass (about 1 cup) if serving over ice; for a straight-up cocktail, leave the glass empty or chilled.

  5. 5

    Strain and finish

Double-strain the cocktail through a Hawthorne strainer and, optionally, a fine mesh strainer into the chilled serving glass. If you prefer a slightly longer drink, top with about 1 oz club soda and give a gentle stir.

  6. 6

    Garnish

Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge on the rim. If using, add a cucumber ribbon for an herbal, spa-like note.
