Method

Cocktail Preparation

  1. 1

    Muddle mint

Place the fresh mint leaves in a cocktail shaker. Add the simple syrup and gently muddle the mint 6–8 times to release the oils. Do not over-muddle (avoid shredding the leaves) to prevent bitterness.

  2. 2

    Add liquids

Add Ketel One vodka, fresh cucumber juice, and fresh lime juice to the shaker with the muddled mint and simple syrup.

  3. 3

    Shake with ice

Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup). Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds, until the outside of the shaker is cold and slightly frosted.

  4. 4

    Double strain

Double-strain the cocktail into a chilled highball or Collins glass filled with fresh ice using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine-mesh strainer to remove mint bits and cucumber pulp.

  5. 5

    Top (optional)

If desired, top with about 1 oz club soda for a lighter, fizzy texture. Gently stir once to combine.

Garnish

  1. 6

Thread the thin cucumber slice onto the rim or lay it inside the glass and place a fresh mint sprig against the ice with the stem down. Clap the mint sprig once between your palms to lightly bruise the leaves and release aroma before placing it in the drink.
