Method

Prep & Salt Rim

  1. 1

    Rim glass

If desired, lightly wet the rim of an old‑fashioned glass with a lime wedge. Spread the smoked sea salt on a small plate and dip just a portion of the rim to create a subtle salted accent. Set glass aside.

Mixing

  1. 2

    Combine ingredients

In a mixing glass or shaker filled with plenty of ice, pour 2 oz ultra‑aged añejo tequila, 0.5 oz reposado tequila, 0.75 oz Grand Marnier, 0.5 oz fresh lime juice, 0.25 oz agave syrup, 2 dashes Angostura bitters and 1 dash orange bitters.

  2. 3

    Stir & chill

Stir the mixture briskly with a bar spoon for about 20–30 seconds (or until properly chilled and slightly diluted). Use stirring rather than shaking to preserve the spirit-forward clarity and mouthfeel.

Finish & Serve

  1. 4

    Strain

Discard any excess salt from the rim if applied unevenly. Strain the chilled cocktail over a single large ice cube or sphere in the prepared old‑fashioned glass.

  2. 5

    Garnish

Express the oils of a large orange twist over the drink by holding the peel over the glass and giving it a sharp squeeze so the oils spray across the surface. Optionally, flame the orange peel briefly (hold a lit match near the peel and squeeze) to add an aromatic caramelized note, then rest the twist on the rim or float it on the drink.

  3. 6

    Final touch

Allow the cocktail to rest for 10–20 seconds so the aromas settle, then serve. The smoked salt on the rim should be a subtle accent—adjust future preparations to taste.
