Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Prepare

Chill a coupe or martini glass by filling it with ice water while you assemble ingredients. If using egg white, separate one egg and measure 1/2 egg white (about 0.5 each). Prepare fresh lemon and lime juice.

  2. 2

Dry shake (if using egg white)

Add vodka, lemon juice, lime juice, simple syrup, cranberry juice, and the egg white to a cocktail shaker. Do not add ice. Seal the shaker and shake vigorously for 15–20 seconds to create a silky froth and emulsify the egg white.

  3. 3

    Wet shake

Open the shaker, add a generous handful of ice (about 1 cup), reseal and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the shaker feels very cold. This chills and dilutes the cocktail to proper strength.

  4. 4

    Glass prep & strain

Dump the ice water from the chilled glass. Fine-strain the cocktail from the shaker into the chilled coupe or martini glass using a Hawthorne or julep strainer; if you used egg white, use a fine mesh strainer to catch any small solids and ensure a silky surface.

  5. 5

    Garnish & serve

Express a lemon twist over the surface to release oils, then drop it into the glass or perch on the rim. Alternatively, skim 3 fresh cranberries across the froth as a garnish. Serve immediately.
