Chicken Sausage Gravy
Method
Biscuit Preparation
- 1
Make the Biscuit Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the unsalted butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the milk until just combined.
- 2
Shape the Biscuits
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently. Pat the dough to about 1-inch thickness and cut out biscuits using a round cutter.
- 3
Bake the Biscuits
Place the biscuits on a baking sheet and bake in a preheated oven at 425°F (220°C) for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
Chicken Sausage Gravy Preparation
- 4
Cook the Sausage
In a large skillet over medium heat, crumble the Shreiners chicken sausage and cook until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
- 5
Make the Roux
Add the unsalted butter to the skillet with the cooked sausage. Once melted, stir in the all-purpose flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until bubbly and golden, stirring constantly.
- 6
Add the Milk
Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Cook until the gravy thickens, about 3-5 minutes. Season with salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes to taste.
