Prepare Calamari

Clean and Cut Calamari
If not pre-cut, clean the calamari by removing the skin and innards. Cut into rings if necessary.

Bread the Calamari
Dip each calamari ring first into the flour, then into the egg, and finally coat with the breadcrumb mixture.
Fry Calamari

Heat Oil
In a deep frying pan, heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

Fry Calamari
Carefully add the breaded calamari rings to the hot oil in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown.

Drain Calamari
Use a slotted spoon to remove the calamari from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Prepare Marinara Sauce

Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and sugar. Bring the sauce to a simmer.

Let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened.
