Cake Ingredients

Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) to ensure it's hot enough to cook the cakes properly.

  2. 2

    Prepare Ramekins

Grease four 6-ounce ramekins with butter and dust with flour to prevent sticking. Tap out any excess flour.

  3. 3

    Melt Butter and Chocolate

In a medium microwave-safe bowl, combine the butter and dark chocolate. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until melted and smooth.

  4. 4

    Mix Sugar and Eggs

Add the granulated sugar to the melted chocolate mixture and whisk until combined. Then, add the eggs and egg yolks, whisking until the mixture is thick and glossy.

  5. 5

    Add Dry Ingredients

Sift in the flour and salt, then fold the mixture gently until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the cake light.

  6. 6

    Add Vanilla Extract

Stir in the vanilla extract to add flavor to the batter.

  7. 7

    Fill Ramekins

Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins, filling each about 3/4 full.

  8. 8

    Bake the Cakes

Place the ramekins on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for about 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center is soft.

  9. 9

    Cool and Serve

Remove from the oven and let the cakes cool for 1 minute. Carefully run a knife around the edges to loosen, then invert onto serving plates. Serve immediately for the molten center effect.
