Prepare Burger Patties

Mix the Beef
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix until just combined. Be careful not to overwork the meat.

Form Patties
Divide the meat mixture into two equal portions and shape them into patties about 3/4 inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent them from puffing up while cooking.

Slice the Tomato
While the burgers are cooking, slice the tomato into 1/4-inch thick slices.

Wash Lettuce
Rinse the lettuce leaves under cold water and pat dry with a paper towel.
Assemble the Burger

Toast the Buns
Optionally, toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster for about 1-2 minutes until golden brown.

Build the Burger
Place a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun, followed by a burger patty, tomato slices, and pickles. Top with the other half of the bun.

If serving French fries, prepare according to package instructions (baking or frying).

If serving coleslaw, place it in a bowl and serve alongside the burgers.
