Method

Burger Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Meat

In a large bowl, season the ground beef with salt and black pepper. Mix gently but do not overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the seasoned beef into four equal portions. Form each portion into a loose patty, making a slight indentation in the center to prevent puffing during cooking.

  3. 3

    Grill the Patties

Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 3-4 minutes on one side, then flip them.

  4. 4

    Add Cheese

Place a slice of smoked cheddar cheese on each patty after flipping. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the burger reaches your desired doneness.

Toppings Preparation

  1. 5

    Grill the Onions

Slice the large onion into rings. In a skillet, add a little oil and sauté the onions over medium heat until they are soft and caramelized, about 10-15 minutes.

  2. 6

    Prepare Tomato and Pickles

Slice the tomato into thick slices. Set aside. Drain the pickles if they are in liquid.

  3. 7

    Make the Secret Sauce

Combine your favorite ingredients for a secret sauce (mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, and relish work well) in a small bowl. Mix well and adjust the flavor to your liking.

Assembly

  1. 8

    Toast the Buns

Lightly toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.

  2. 9

    Assemble the Burger

On the bottom half of each bun, spread a generous amount of secret sauce. Place the grilled patty with melted smoked cheddar on top, followed by grilled onions, sliced tomatoes, and pickles. Top with the other half of the bun.
