Cold Brew Concentrate

Equipment & Extras

Method

Cold Brew Concentrate

  1. 1

    Combine

Add 1 cup coarsely ground coffee to a large jar or pitcher. Pour in 4 cups cold filtered water, ensuring all grounds are saturated. Stir gently to combine.

  2. 2

    Steep

Cover the jar and let the mixture steep at room temperature or in the refrigerator for 16 to 20 hours. For a brighter flavor, steep closer to 12-16 hours; for a stronger, smoother concentrate, steep 18-20 hours.

  3. 3

    Filter

After steeping, strain the coffee through a fine mesh sieve lined with a coffee filter or cheesecloth into a clean container. If necessary, filter a second time to remove fine particles. The liquid you have is cold brew concentrate (about 3 to 4 cups).

  4. 4

    Store

Refrigerate the concentrate in a sealed container for up to 2 weeks. Shake gently before using.

To Serve (per 12 oz serving)

  1. 5

Fill a serving glass with 1 cup (about 1 cup) of ice.

  2. 6

Pour 6 fl oz cold brew concentrate over the ice.

  3. 7

Add 6 fl oz cold water or milk (dairy or plant-based) to dilute to taste (adjust concentrate to water ratio between 1:1 and 1:2 depending on desired strength).

  4. 8

If desired, add 1 tablespoon simple syrup or sweetener and/or 1 tablespoon flavor shot (vanilla, caramel, or hazelnut). Note: charge for flavor shot as appropriate.

  5. 9

Stir gently to combine and serve immediately.

Equipment & Extras

  1. 10

Use a clean jar and filter equipment to avoid off-flavors. Dispose of used grounds or compost them.
