Method

Cake Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Cake Batter

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

  2. 2

    Cream the Butter

In another bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy, then add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients

Gradually add the dry mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, starting and ending with the dry mixture. Mix until just combined.

Topping Directions

  1. 4

    Prepare the Topping

In a small saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat, then stir in the brown sugar, cinnamon, and apple cider. Cook until the mixture is bubbly and slightly thickened.

  2. 5

    Add Apples and Pecans

Slice the apples into thin wedges and arrange them in the bottom of a greased 9-inch round cake pan. Pour the butter mixture over the apples and sprinkle with pecans.

Caramel Sauce Directions

  1. 6

    Make the Caramel Sauce

In a saucepan, heat the granulated sugar over medium heat, stirring constantly until it melts and turns golden brown. Slowly add the heavy cream and butter, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and salt.

Baking Directions

  1. 7

    Combine Cake and Topping

Pour the cake batter over the apple and pecan topping in the cake pan, spreading it evenly.

  2. 8

    Bake the Cake

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for about 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  3. 9

    Cool and Serve

Let the cake cool for 10 minutes in the pan before inverting it onto a serving plate. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream and drizzle with apple cider caramel sauce.
