Oil for Frying

Method

Preparation of Onions

  1. 1

Peel the onions and slice them into 1/4 inch thick rings. Carefully separate the onion rings from one another and set aside.

Batter Preparation

  1. 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Mix well to ensure all dry ingredients are evenly distributed.

  2. 3

Gradually add the ice water to the dry mixture while stirring until a smooth batter forms. It should be thick enough to coat the onion rings but not too thick.

Frying Onion Rings

  1. 4

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the temperature by dropping a small amount of batter into the oil; it should sizzle and float to the surface.

  2. 5

Dip each onion ring into the batter, ensuring they are fully coated. Allow any excess batter to drip off before carefully placing them into the hot oil.

  3. 6

Fry the onion rings in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy.

  4. 7

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried onion rings from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil.

Serving

  1. 8

Serve the onion rings hot, with your favorite dipping sauce on the side.
