Pasta and Cheese Sauce

Method

Pasta Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Pasta

In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Cheese Sauce

  1. 2

    Make the Roux

In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in the flour and cook for about 2 minutes to form a roux, stirring constantly.

  2. 3

    Add Milk and Cream

Gradually whisk in the milk and heavy cream, bringing the mixture to a simmer. Continue to whisk until the sauce thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

  3. 4

    Incorporate Cheeses

Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the cheddar, Gruyere, Parmesan, and cream cheese until fully melted and smooth. Season with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.

Combine and Bake

  1. 5

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Fold the cooked macaroni into the cheese sauce until well combined. Transfer to a greased baking dish.

  2. 6

    Prepare the Topping

In a small bowl, mix the breadcrumbs with the olive oil and dried parsley. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture evenly over the mac and cheese.

  3. 7

    Cook the Sausage

In a skillet, cook the sliced Andouille sausage over medium heat until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.

  4. 8

    Top with Sausage

Evenly distribute the cooked sausage over the breadcrumb topping in the baking dish.

  5. 9

    Bake

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the mac and cheese for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbling.

Serving

  1. 10

    Serve Hot

Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your Adult Mac n Cheese!
