Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water (110°F/43°C), sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Mix Dough Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Mix until the dough starts to come together. Transfer to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Let Dough Rise
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
Pizza Assembly
- 5
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) and place a pizza stone or baking sheet inside to heat.
- 6
Shape the Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll it out into a 12-inch circle or your desired shape.
- 7
Add Sauce and Cheese
Transfer the shaped dough onto a piece of parchment paper. Spread a cup of tomato sauce evenly on the surface, leaving a small border around the edges. Tear fresh mozzarella into pieces and distribute evenly over the sauce.
- 8
Season and Add Basil
Drizzle olive oil over the top, and season with salt and black pepper to taste. Scatter fresh basil leaves on top.
- 9
Bake the Pizza
Carefully transfer the pizza (with parchment) onto the preheated pizza stone or baking sheet. Bake for about 10-12 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
- 10
Serve
Remove the pizza from the oven, allow it to cool for a couple of minutes, slice, and serve hot.
