Chill glass
If you prefer your cocktail chilled without dilution in the serving glass, place a coupe or rocks glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice while you prepare the drink.
Measure and combine
Add 2 oz Knob Creek Rye, 1 oz sweet vermouth, 0.25 oz amaro, 0.25 oz simple syrup, 2 dashes Angostura bitters, and 1 dash orange bitters to a mixing glass or cocktail shaker.
Prepare serving glass
If you used ice to chill the serving glass, dump it now. Strain the chilled cocktail through a julep or fine strainer into the chilled coupe or an Old Fashioned (rocks) glass over one large clear ice cube if you like a slower dilution.
Garnish
Express the oils of an orange peel over the drink by holding the peel with the outer skin facing down about 2–3 inches above the surface and giving it a sharp twist, then rub the peel around the glass rim and drop it into the drink. Optionally add a Luxardo or brandied cherry on a pick.
Serving notes
Serve immediately. The Knob Creek Rye-based Manhattan-style cocktail pairs well with savory snacks, cured meats, or dark-chocolate desserts. Adjust sweetness by varying the sweet vermouth or simple syrup slightly to taste.
