Build and shake
Add Bulleit Bourbon, simple syrup, fresh lemon juice and Angostura bitters into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until shaker is well chilled (exterior becomes frosty).
Strain
Double-strain the mixture through a Hawthorne strainer and a fine-mesh strainer into a chilled coupe or rocks glass (if serving over fresh ice, strain over fresh large ice cube).
Garnish and serve
Express the orange peel over the drink to release oils, rub the rim with the peel, then drop it in as garnish. Serve immediately.
