Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Prepare glass

Choose a Collins glass (10–14 oz). Fill the glass with ice cubes to chill while you mix the drink.

  2. 2

    Combine base ingredients

In a cocktail shaker or mixing glass, add 2 oz gin, 1 oz fresh lemon juice, and 0.5 oz simple syrup. Fill the shaker or mixing glass with ice (enough to properly chill and dilute, about 4–6 large cubes).

  3. 3

    Shake

If using a shaker, cap and shake vigorously for about 10–12 seconds until the outside of the shaker is frosty and the mixture is well-chilled. If using a mixing glass, stir briskly for about 15–20 seconds to chill and dilute.

  4. 4

    Strain and top

Discard the ice from the chilled Collins glass. Strain the shaken mixture into the glass over fresh ice (fill glass about 3/4 full). Top with approximately 3 oz chilled club soda, pouring gently to preserve carbonation.

  5. 5

    Garnish and finish

Gently stir once or twice with a bar spoon to integrate the soda without flattening it. Garnish with a lemon wheel on the rim and, if desired, a maraschino cherry. Serve immediately with a straw.
