Potatoes

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Cut Potatoes

Wash the Russet potatoes thoroughly under cold water to remove any dirt. Cut each potato into even-sized strips, approximately 1/4 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Soak Potatoes

Place the cut potatoes in a large bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and will result in crispier fries.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a deep fryer or a large heavy pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to ensure accuracy.

  2. 4

    Dry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry thoroughly with paper towels. This is crucial to prevent oil splatters and to ensure crispiness.

  3. 5

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add the dried potato strips to the hot oil in small batches. Fry for about 5-7 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy. Avoid overcrowding the pot.

  4. 6

    Remove and Drain

Once cooked, use a slotted spoon to remove the fries from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.

  5. 7

    Season the Fries

While the fries are still hot, sprinkle them with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika to taste. Toss gently to coat evenly.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve Hot

Serve the fries immediately while they are hot and crispy. Enjoy them alone or with your favorite dipping sauces.
