Method
Bread Preparation
- 1
Combine Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, active dry yeast, sugar, and salt. Mix well to combine.
- 2
Add Wet Ingredients
Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the warm water and olive oil. Stir with a wooden spoon until a dough begins to form.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
- 4
First Rise
Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
- 5
Shape the Bread
After the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Shape it into a loaf or divide it into smaller rolls.
- 6
Second Rise
Place the shaped dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
- 7
Bake the Bread
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the bread for 25-30 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
- 8
Cool and Serve
Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing. Serve warm with butter or dipping oil.
Dipping Oil Preparation
- 9
Combine Ingredients
In a small bowl, combine the extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar, dried oregano, dried basil, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
- 10
Mix Well
Whisk the mixture until well combined. Adjust the seasoning with additional salt and pepper if desired.
- 11
Serve
Transfer the dipping oil to a serving dish and enjoy it alongside the freshly baked bread.
