Method
Biscuit Directions
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Whisk together until well mixed.
Cut in Butter
Add the cold unsalted butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Add Milk
Pour in the milk and stir just until the dough comes together. Be careful not to overmix.
Form Biscuits
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface. Gently pat it down to about 1-inch thick. Use a round cutter to cut out biscuits and place them on a baking sheet.
Bake
Bake the biscuits in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
Sausage Gravy Directions
Cook Sausage
In a large skillet over medium heat, crumble and cook the breakfast sausage until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
Make Roux
Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage and stir to coat. Cook for about 1 minute until the flour is lightly browned.
Add Milk
Slowly pour in the milk, stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Bring to a simmer.
Season Gravy
Season the gravy with salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes to taste. Continue cooking until the gravy thickens, about 5 minutes.
Serve
Spoon the sausage gravy over warm biscuits and serve immediately.
