Prepare the Glass
Chill a martini glass by filling it with ice water. Set aside while you prepare the cocktail.

Mix the Martini
In a mixing glass, combine the gin and dry vermouth. Fill the mixing glass with ice and stir gently for about 30 seconds until well chilled.

Strain and Serve
Empty the ice water from the chilled martini glass. Strain the gin and vermouth mixture into the glass.

Garnish
Add an olive or a twist of lemon peel for garnish. Serve immediately.
