Method
Coffee
- 1
Inspect and prepare beans
Inspect the 12 oz of whole bean coffee for any foreign objects or unusual defects. Gently fluff the beans in the bag to aerate and redistribute oils evenly.
- 2
Record roast date
Write the roast date and any blend information on a label. Freshness is best within 7–21 days after roast for whole beans; include roast date so customer knows peak window.
Packaging
- 3
Select bag and valve
Choose a resealable coffee bag with a one-way degassing valve. If your bag does not have an integrated valve, use a one-way degassing valve appropriate for the bag.
- 4
Add oxygen absorber (optional)
If long-term shelf stability is desired, place a single small oxygen absorber in the bag on top of the beans. Do not mix the absorber directly into the beans; place it in the bag pocket above them.
- 5
Fill bag
Place the 12 oz of whole beans into the chosen bag. Pour carefully to avoid crushing the beans. Gently level the top so the bag seals evenly.
- 6
Seal bag
If using a resealable zipper bag, press to close securely and check that the valve is oriented outward. If using a heat-seal bag, use a heat sealer to close the top following manufacturer instructions, leaving the valve position unobstructed.
- 7
Check valve and package integrity
Squeeze the bag gently to ensure the one-way valve is functioning (air escapes but does not re-enter). Inspect seals for gaps or leaks and re-seal if necessary.
- 8
Label and store
Affix the label with roast date, origin or blend name, grind recommendation (whole bean), and any tasting notes. Store packaged beans in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight; ideal storage is 50–70°F (10–21°C). For best freshness, use within 4–12 weeks depending on roast and storage.
