Burger Patty Preparation

Form the Patties
In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently until combined but do not overwork the meat. Form into two equal patties, about 1/2 inch thick.

Cook the Patties
Preheat a skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the patties. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side, then flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes for medium doneness, or until desired doneness is reached.

Melt the Cheese
In the last minute of cooking the burgers, place a slice of American cheese on each patty and cover with a lid to melt the cheese.

Assemble the Burger
On one slice of toasted marble rye, place the cheeseburger patty, followed by a generous portion of caramelized onions. Top with the second slice of toasted rye. Cut in half and serve immediately.
