Method
Preparation
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) to ensure it's hot enough for the cakes to rise properly.
- 2
Prepare Ramekins
Grease four ramekins with butter and dust them with cocoa powder to prevent sticking. Place them on a baking sheet for easy handling.
Making the Cake Batter
- 3
Melt Chocolate and Butter
In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the unsweetened chocolate and unsalted butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between until melted and smooth.
- 4
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
- 5
Combine Mixtures
Add the melted chocolate mixture to the dry ingredients. Stir until combined, then add in the eggs and vanilla extract. Mix until the batter is smooth.
Baking the Cakes
- 6
Fill Ramekins
Evenly distribute the cake batter into the prepared ramekins, filling them about 3/4 full.
- 7
Bake
Bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center is soft and slightly jiggly.
- 8
Cool Briefly
Remove from the oven and let the cakes cool for 1-2 minutes before inverting onto plates.
