Calamari

Lemon Aioli

Method

Calamari Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Coating

In a large bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, and paprika.

  2. 2

    Coat the Calamari

Dredge the calamari rings in the prepared flour mixture until well coated.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large, deep skillet or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  4. 4

    Fry the Calamari

Fry the coated calamari in batches for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 5

    Sauté the Garlic

In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.

  2. 6

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper to the saucepan. Stir to combine.

  3. 7

    Simmer the Sauce

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in the chopped fresh basil before serving.

Lemon Aioli Preparation

  1. 8

    Combine Ingredients

In a medium bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, minced garlic, lemon juice, and lemon zest until smooth.

  2. 9

    Season

Add salt to taste, mixing well to combine.
