Potatoes

Method

Preparing the Potatoes

  1. 1

    Wash and Peel

Start by washing the Russet potatoes thoroughly under cold running water. Peel the potatoes using a vegetable peeler.

  2. 2

    Cut into Fries

Using a sharp knife, cut the peeled potatoes into long strips, about 1/4 inch thick, to create the hand-cut fries.

  3. 3

    Soak the Fries

Place the cut fries in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps remove excess starch and makes the fries crispier.

Frying the Fries

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large, deep pot or a deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to ensure the oil is at the right temperature.

  2. 5

    Dry the Fries

After soaking, drain the fries and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess water.

  3. 6

    Fry the Fries

Carefully add a batch of fries to the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry the fries for about 5-7 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy.

  4. 7

    Drain and Season

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. While they are still hot, sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and paprika to taste.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve Hot

Serve the hand-cut fries hot, either plain or with your favorite dipping sauces.
