Burger Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Beef Patties
In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with salt and black pepper. Mix gently until the seasoning is evenly distributed, being careful not to overwork the meat.
- 2
Form the Patties
Divide the seasoned beef into two equal portions. Shape each portion into a round patty that is slightly larger than the burger buns, making a small indentation in the center of each patty to help them cook evenly.
- 3
Cook the Patties
Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side. Flip the patties over and place a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each. Continue cooking for an additional 3-4 minutes for medium doneness, or until the cheese is melted.
- 4
Toast the Buns
While the patties are cooking, slice the burger buns in half and toast them on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.
- 5
Assemble the Burgers
Place the cooked patties with melted cheese on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Top with lettuce, sliced tomato, and onion as desired. Cover with the top bun.
- 6
Serve
Serve immediately with your choice of sides and condiments.
