Calamari Preparation

Prepare the Calamari
In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix well.

Prepare for Frying
Once all calamari are coated, place them on a plate and let them sit for about 10 minutes to allow the coating to adhere.

Heat the Oil
In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 180°C (350°F).

Fry the Calamari
Carefully add the coated calamari to the hot oil in batches, frying them for about 2-3 minutes until they are golden brown and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper to the saucepan. Stir well to combine.

Simmer the Sauce
Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in the chopped fresh basil just before serving.
