Sparkling Cocktail Base

Optional: Non-alcoholic Variation

Method

Sparkling Cocktail Base

  1. 1

    Prepare cocktail mix

Add 6 tablespoons gin, 1 tablespoon elderflower liqueur, 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice, 1 teaspoon simple syrup and 2 tablespoons white grape or lychee purée into a cocktail shaker.

  2. 2

    Chill and dilute

Add 6 ice cubes to the shaker, secure the lid and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until well chilled and slightly diluted.

  3. 3

    Strain

Double-strain the shaken mixture into a clean chilled champagne flute or coupe (about one-third full). Use a fine mesh strainer to remove pulp and ice shards so the base is smooth.

Finish & Garnish

  1. 4

    Top with sparkling wine

Slowly top the flute with 180 ml chilled champagne (or sparkling wine) poured gently down the side to preserve effervescence and create a layered lift with the base. Leave a small headspace to avoid overflow.

  2. 5

    Add sparkle and fruit

Carefully sprinkle 1 teaspoon food-grade edible gold glitter over the surface (sparingly — a little goes a long way). Nestle 3 fresh raspberries into the flute or thread them on a cocktail pick and lay across the rim. Tuck a lemon twist on the rim or inside the drink for aroma.

  3. 6

    Serve

Serve immediately while still effervescent. Offer a stirrer so guests can incorporate the sparkle and fruit if they wish.

Optional: Non-alcoholic Variation

  1. 7

Substitute non-alcoholic gin alternative for the gin and use alcohol-free sparkling wine or premium soda water in place of champagne. Follow the same shake, strain and top method. Increase purée to 3 tablespoons if you prefer more body when omitting alcohol.
