Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Muddle

In a cocktail shaker, add the fresh cucumber slices and 6 mint leaves. Add the simple syrup and lime juice. Gently muddle 8–10 times until the cucumber releases juice and the mint is aromatic but not shredded (over-muddling will make the mint bitter).

  2. 2

    Add spirits and ice

Add Tanqueray (1 oz) and The Botanist (1 oz) to the shaker. Add 1 cup of ice to the shaker to chill and dilute correctly.

  3. 3

    Shake

Secure the shaker and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is very cold (this gives proper dilution and chilling).

  4. 4

    Prepare glass

Fill a chilled rocks or coupe glass with crushed ice (about 1 cup) to create the desired presentation and keep the drink cold.

  5. 5

    Double strain and serve

Double-strain the shaken mix over the crushed ice using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer to remove cucumber bits and mint pieces, ensuring a silky texture.

  6. 6

    Optional top

If you prefer a lighter, slightly effervescent finish, top the drink with 1–2 tablespoons of soda water. Gently stir once to integrate.

  7. 7

    Garnish

Finish with a cucumber ribbon draped across the top and a sprig of mint tucked alongside. Clap the mint once between your palms before placing it to release aroma.

  8. 8

Serve immediately while cold. Note: adjust simple syrup to taste if your cucumber is particularly mild or sweet.
