Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Chill glass

Place the martini or coupe glass in the freezer for at least 5 minutes or fill with ice water while you prepare the cocktail so the drink stays cold longer.

  2. 2

    Prepare espresso

Brew a fresh shot of espresso (about 1 oz) and let it cool for a minute or two. Using very hot espresso will melt ice too quickly and dilute the cocktail; warm-to-cooled is ideal.

  3. 3

    Combine ingredients

Add ice to the cocktail shaker (about 1 cup). Pour in 1.5 oz Casamigos, 1 oz cooled espresso, 0.75 oz Frangelico, 0.5 oz coconut rum, and 0.5 oz almond orgeat. If you prefer a sweeter cocktail, add up to 0.25 oz simple syrup.

  4. 4

    Dry shake (optional for foam)

For a richer, crema-like foam on top, first seal the shaker and shake vigorously without ice for 8–10 seconds to emulsify the espresso and orgeat.

  5. 5

    Wet shake

Add ice (if you didn't already) and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is frosty. This chills the drink and builds a silky texture.

  6. 6

    Double strain & serve

Discard the ice from the chilled glass. Fine-strain the cocktail into the glass to remove small ice shards and espresso flecks for a smooth presentation.

  7. 7

    Garnish

Float three coffee beans on the crema as a classic espresso-martini nod. Optionally, grate a tiny bit of toasted coconut or almond over the top for aroma.

  8. 8

    Serve

Serve immediately while cold. Sip slowly to enjoy the interplay of tequila, hazelnut, coconut and almond.

Tools & Glassware

  1. 9

Use a jigger to measure ingredients accurately. Chill glassware ahead of time and use a fine strainer if you want an extra-smooth surface without tiny espresso flecks.
