Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Chill glass

Place a martini or coupe glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to ensure the drink stays cold and crisp.

  2. 2

    Combine spirits and aperitif

In a mixing glass or cocktail shaker filled halfway with large ice cubes, add 1.5 oz dry gin, 0.5 oz premium vodka, and 0.75 oz Cocchi Americano (or Lillet Blanc). The Vesper is traditionally shaken, but you may stir if you prefer a silkier texture.

  3. 3

    Shake or stir

If shaking: secure the shaker and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is very cold and slightly frosted. If stirring: stir gently for 20–30 seconds until well-chilled and properly diluted.

  4. 4

    Strain

Discard the ice or water from the chilled glass. Double-strain (using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer if available) the cocktail into the chilled martini or coupe glass to remove any shards of ice.

  5. 5

    Garnish

Express the oils of a fresh lemon peel over the surface of the drink by holding the peel with the outer skin facing down above the glass and giving it a quick twist. Rub the peel along the rim if desired, then drop the peel into the cocktail as garnish.

  6. 6

    Serve

Serve immediately while icy cold. Recommend enjoying the Vesper neat, without additional mixers.
