Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Chill glass

Place a coupe or chilled cocktail glass in the freezer for a few minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail.

  2. 2

Add ice to a mixing glass or shaker (about 8 large cubes) to properly chill and dilute the drink.

  3. 3

Pour 1.5 oz gin, 0.5 oz dry vermouth, 0.25 oz Lillet Blanc, 0.25 oz fresh lemon juice, and 0.125 oz simple syrup into the mixing glass.

  4. 4

Add 2 dashes of orange bitters to the mixing glass.

  5. 5

Stir the mixture with a bar spoon for 20–30 seconds until well chilled and properly diluted (aim for slight frost on the outside of the mixing glass). Stirring is preferred to preserve clarity and texture.

  6. 6

Dump the ice or water from the chilled coupe. Double-strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe using a Hawthorne or julep strainer and a fine mesh strainer to remove any tiny ice shards or citrus pith.

Garnish & Finish

  1. 7

Express the lemon twist over the surface of the cocktail by holding it skin-side down and giving it a quick squeeze to release oils, then run the twist around the rim and drop it onto the drink.

  2. 8

Optionally, place a small edible flower or micro-herb atop the drink for visual flair.

  3. 9

Serve immediately. The cocktail yields a bright, slightly floral, and elegant small-format drink suited for sipping.
