Method

For the Hamburger Steak

  1. 1

    Prepare the Mixture

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, finely chopped onion, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Shape the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties, about 1 inch thick.

  3. 3

    Cook the Patties

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the patties for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until they are browned and cooked through. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

For the Mushroom Topping

  1. 4

    Sauté the Mushrooms

In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced mushrooms and cook for about 5 minutes, or until they are softened and browned.

  2. 5

    Add Garlic and Soy Sauce

Stir in the minced garlic and soy sauce, cooking for an additional 2 minutes until fragrant.

  3. 6

    Top the Patties

Return the hamburger patties to the skillet, spoon the mushroom mixture over each patty, and sprinkle the shredded Monterey Jack cheese on top. Cover the skillet with a lid and cook for another 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted.
