Sparkler Base

Method

Sparkler Base

  1. 1

    Mix base

In a cocktail shaker or a tall mixing glass, combine 1 cup cranberry juice, 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice and 1 teaspoon simple syrup. If you want a slightly orange aromatic note, add 1/2 tablespoon nonalcoholic orange syrup or a splash of orange liqueur. Stir or shake briefly (10–15 seconds) just to blend and chill the mixture.

  2. 2

    Taste and adjust

Taste the base and adjust sweetness or acidity: add up to 1/2 teaspoon more simple syrup if too tart, or another 1/2 teaspoon lime juice if too sweet. The goal is a bright, balanced tart-sweet base before adding fizz.

Fizz & Finish

  1. 3

    Prepare glass

Fill a highball or Collins glass with 1 cup of cubed ice.

  2. 4

    Assemble mocktail

Pour the chilled cranberry-lime base over the ice, leaving room at the top for soda (about 3/4 inch). Gently pour 3 oz chilled club soda down the side of the glass to preserve bubbles and create a layered look. Stir once gently with a bar spoon or straw to integrate the soda without flattening it.

  3. 5

    Garnish and serve

Thread 4–6 fresh cranberries onto a short cocktail pick or float them on top. Add a lime wheel or wedge to the rim. Serve immediately so the drink remains fizzy.

  4. 6

    Batching (optional)

To make a pitcher for 6 servings, multiply the cranberry base ingredients by 6 and keep the club soda separate until serving. Chill the mixed base, then combine with chilled club soda (1/2 cup club soda per serving) just before serving to maintain fizz.
