Cooking Instructions
Rinse the Rice
Place the basmati rice in a fine-mesh strainer and rinse under cold running water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and prevents the rice from becoming sticky.
Soak the Rice
Transfer the rinsed rice to a bowl and cover it with water. Let it soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to soften the grains and ensures even cooking.
Prepare the Steamer
In a pot, bring 1.5 cups of water to a boil. If using a steaming basket, make sure it fits securely over the pot.
Steam the Rice
After soaking, drain the rice and place it in the steaming basket or a heatproof dish. Sprinkle salt over the rice, and then place it over the boiling water. Cover tightly and steam for about 20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and fluffy.
Fluff and Serve
Once cooked, remove the rice from the steamer and let it rest for a few minutes. Fluff with a fork before serving.
