Method
Purple Syrup Base
- 1
Combine and chill
In a small mixing glass or measuring cup, add 1 tablespoon crème de violette, 1 tablespoon blue Curaçao and 1/2 teaspoon simple syrup. Stir gently until the simple syrup is fully incorporated and the color is an even deep purple. Chill briefly in the refrigerator or add a few large ice cubes to cool for 1 minute, then discard the ice.
- 2
Taste the base quickly and adjust sweetness with an additional 1/4 teaspoon simple syrup if it needs balancing. The combined floral (violette) and orange (Curaçao) notes should read bright purple, not overly sweet.
Cream Layer
- 3
Layer preparation
Measure 1 tablespoon Irish cream liqueur into a separate small pitcher or metal mixing cup. Add 1/2 teaspoon light cream or half-and-half and gently stir to combine so the cream is slightly thinned but still opaque.
- 4
If you want a cleaner layer separation, chill the cream mixture briefly and make sure the purple base is denser (do not over-dilute the purple base).
Citrus Brightener
- 5
Stir 1/2 teaspoon fresh lemon juice into the purple syrup base. This small amount of acid will brighten flavors and help the purple hue pop. Taste and adjust only slightly; you should still have a predominantly sweet floral/orange profile.
Assembly & Garnish
- 6
Assemble the shot
Using a 1-ounce (30 ml) shot glass or 2-ounce shooter, pour the purple syrup base into the glass to fill roughly 2/3 of the shot (about 20 ml). Hold the spoon upside down just above the liquid surface and very slowly pour the Irish cream mixture over the back of the spoon so it floats as a cream layer on top. Pouring slowly and keeping the stream close to the surface helps maintain a clean layer separation.
- 7
If desired, very lightly dust a pinch (about 0.1 tsp) of edible glitter or luster dust over the cream layer for a shimmering effect. Add a tiny lemon twist on the rim or a small edible flower on the cream for presentation.
- 8
Serve immediately. Instruct guests to sip straight or tip the whole shot to combine flavors — the effect should be a sweet floral-orange purple base with a creamy finish and a bright lemon note.
